How search tools handled false narratives

NPR and NewsGuard sent the same 30 questions to six AI chatbots (180 responses in total) and four search engines (120 pages of first-page results total) and analyzed AI summaries when they appeared in search engine results (62 summaries in total). In many cases, the results either correctly debunked the false narratives, offered some helpful information or did not answer the questions. In a smaller number of cases, the results failed to challenge the false narratives in any way, offering only misleading or false information.
