What Is Your State’s Risk Level?

The risk rating system is based on the rate of new daily cases of COVID-19 in a given area. It offers suggested actions depending on the level of risk. The ratings below are based on an average of new daily cases in each state from June 23 to 29.

Red

  • States: 2
  • Threshold: 25+ daily new cases per 100,000 people
  • Indicates: unchecked community spread
  • Interventions: Stay-at-home orders are necessary.

Orange

  • States: 14
  • Threshold: 10-24 daily new cases per 100,000 people
  • Indicates: escalating community spread
  • Interventions: Stay-at-home orders may be necessary, unless it's possible to surge testing and tracing capabilities.

Yellow

  • States: 34
  • Threshold: 1-9 daily new cases per 100,000 people
  • Indicates: potential community spread
  • Interventions: Continue testing, contact tracing and isolation, as well as social distancing, masking and other measures.

Green

  • States: 1
  • Threshold: <1 daily new case per 100,000 people
  • Indicates: close to containment
  • Interventions: Continue testing, contact tracing and isolation to suppress outbreaks.
