More structures in the Eaton Fire — but not all — will be required to rebuild with fire-resistant building materials

California has released new maps showing where wildfires are a potential hazard. That means some homeowners in Altadena, Calif., who are starting to rebuild after the Eaton Fire will be required to use wildfire building codes that apply for new construction.

• Newly designated very high risk hazard zone

• Buildings not in wildfire hazard zone
• Buildings in expanded high risk hazard zone
• Buildings in expanded very high risk hazard zone
• Buildings in both previous and new wildfire hazard zones; already required to use wildfire building codes.

More than 500 buildings will have to use wildfire building codes by late July.

More than 1,000 buildings will be required to use the codes starting in January.
