The White House wants $24 billion more for Ukraine. Here’s how that stacks up

In 2022, Congress approved more than $112 billion in aid for Ukraine in four spending bills. Now, the White House is asking for $24 billion more. The biggest portion of the aid has been for military assistance. Economic aid helps keep the Ukrainian government operating, including salaries for civil servants, teachers and health care workers. Humanitarian aid includes food aid abroad and support for refugees.

Notes

Aid classified as "other" includes money for oversight of spending, as well as support for Ukraine’s nuclear power sector, costs associated with moving U.S. embassy personnel and spending on investigation of oligarchs and war crimes. The Sept. 2023 request includes $2.3 billion for the World Bank “to provide a credible alternative to coercive financing.”
