In 2014, Women Also Ran For Tough Seats…But In Much Smaller Numbers

In 2014, far fewer women were in the running for governorships and House and Senate seats than there are in 2018. However, they showed a somewhat similar pattern to this year’s women running — that is, Democratic women in particular were likely to show up in “solid Republican” races. Below are the combined totals of non-incumbent women running for U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and governorships, broken out by the Cook Political Report race ratings for those contests, as of March 2014.
