Since the 1950s, the composition of the K-12 public school population has become increasingly less White and increasingly more diverse.
Notes The GAO used “Black alone or in combination with another race” and “Asian alone or in combination with another race” to characterize Black and Asian populations respectively in the years that data were available, starting in 2003. Because these categories are not mutually exclusive, there is some double counting among Black, Asian American and Hispanic categories. The data does not break out American Indian/Alaska Native populations.
