How to register to vote in Virginia

Prior to the statewide primary in August, Virginia is holding a special redistricting referendum on April 21. The regular deadline to register for that referendum is April 14. Afterward, in-person same-day registration is available at an early voting location or a voter's designated polling location on Election Day.

Eligible voters can register in person through Election Day. Voters who register after the mail/online registration deadline will cast provisional ballots. During early voting (June 18-Aug. 1), voters can register at a registrar's office or early voting location. Election Day registration occurs at polling places. More information here.
