North Carolina election results

North Carolina is the only one of the seven swing states that Donald Trump won in 2020. The last time a Democrat won the state in a presidential race was Barack Obama in 2008, and what made the difference was support from young voters. If Republicans want to do well, they’ll have to increase voter turnout in the west and northwest — some of the same areas impacted most by Hurricane Helene. The winner will get the state’s 16 electoral votes. The state is also electing a new governor. Republicans have chosen Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, whose candidacy has been riddled with controversies. He squares up against the state’s attorney general, Josh Stein. North Carolina also has a key House race between Democratic Rep. Don Davis and Republican Laurie Buckhout.

Notes: The estimated share of votes counted is based on AP analysis. AP notes that this will fluctuate as the vote tabulation takes place. Election results are tabulated by The Associated Press.
