An open U.S. Senate seat highlights North Carolina's statewide primary, with former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley each in strong position in their respective contests. There are also a number of contested U.S. House primaries, with some shifts to the state's map as a result of redistricting.
